The Research Seminar is a weekly space that focuses on various areas of applied mathematics, with special emphasis on Mathematical Optimization and Modeling. The main objective is to share the research results of the Modemat and put the researchers of the Center in contact with academics from all over the world, in person or through virtual platforms. Organizer of the seminar: Sergio González Andrade. To subscribe to the Seminar mailing list or propose a talk in it, please write to: sergio.gonzalez@epn.edu.ec

Phase Change Model: Stefan Problem

Phase Change Model: Stefan Problem

By Ing. Klever Loayza, Estudiante de la Maestría en Optimización Matemática EPN

Seminar Date: 2026-06-11

The Stefan PDE system is a representative mathematical model for thermal phase change phenomena, such as melting and solidification, arising in numerous science and engineering processes. This presentation discusses the phase change model based on the Stefan problem, exploring the dynamics of the moving boundary (liquid-solid interface) governed by heat diffusion equations. The formulation and properties of this free boundary problem will be addressed, providing a foundation for PDE control and estimation in materials undergoing phase transitions.
